Welcome to Oscar's house
A little bit about ourselves. I (Oscar) work for the government in the audiovisual field, my wife Ana works in HR for a major university. My son Xavi is 15 and loves sports. Maya our daughter is 13 and is an artist. We all speak several languages (English, French, Spanish and Portuguese) and love to travel. We have family and friends on every continent!
We offer you the possibility of living in full immersion in the language of your choice English, French or Spanish, all members of the family are fully trilingual.
We love doing homestay, for short periods we host international students coming to Canada to learn mostly French and/or English. We have had students from Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Panama and Spain. It's inspiring to meet young people discovering a new world!
Selection criteria:
Compatibility: It's important to know the student beforehand, including their interests, expectations for the trip, and their willingness to spend time with our family. We are looking for someone who will engage and enjoy their stay with us. We are fully committed to making this a great experience.
Purpose of the Trip: The student should come preferably with a study plan, whether a part-time or full-time course. The key is to have a clear purpose for being here. We are not looking for someone to be solely on vacation, as we want someone who will integrate into our family routine. If the student is here to study English or French, we can speak the chosen language to help them practice. In Montreal, it's common to switch between languages in daily life. While we can't promise a single-language environment all the time, this multicultural aspect is part of the city's charm.
Dietary Restrictions: We cannot accommodate dietary restrictions (kosher, halal, vegan, intolerances, or allergies) as we are busy parents who prepare all meals. Ideally, we would provide breakfast and dinner only, and the student can have lunch at the university cafeteria, which offers many options. Alternatively, they can prepare a sandwich or buy a salad to store in the fridge. We do not offer cooking facilities due to the small and frequently used kitchen. Our meals are varied and healthy, and our past students have been very satisfied.
Insurance: The student must have travel and health insurance for any emergencies. Healthcare here is expensive for those not covered by the system.
For volunteer opportunities:
The Volunteer Bureau of Montreal has many options:
in English and in French https://www.cabm.net/benevoles/offre-benevolat
in Spanish you can volunteer at Casa C.A.F.I Centro de ayuda para las familias inmigrantes

We live in a beautiful townhouse with a basement, two floors, and four bathrooms. We have a deck and a garden, lots of natural light. The basement has one private room with a double bed and a desk. There is a full bathroom (shower) and laundry room.
The room we offer in the basement is ideal for one person. We host international students coming to Montreal to study English and/or French, so we intend to offer this room to students who plan to study in Montreal for a short period. From a couple of weeks up to a couple of months (to be discussed). We could offer two meals (half board). My wife and I prepare the meals; we work hybrid, a few days at home and a few days at the office. The kids take public transportation to go to school and come back. We share dinner together where we discuss our day. On weekends, we plan outings, meet friends, or do chores.
We also offer full language immersion in both Canadian official languages, or even in Spanish if that's your wish!
Ile-des-Soeurs (or Nun's Island) is a borough of Montreal. Surrounded by the waters of the St-Lawrence River, it offers a quiet and green space but is very close to the convenience of the city. There are several bus routes and a train that connect to downtown and major universities such as McGill, Concordia, and UQAM.
We are also very close to all the main city attractions.

Dear Oscar, Ana, Xavi and Maya I hope you are doing well. Thank you very much for your kindness and help during my 4 weeks stay. Even when I couldn't speak English well, you always tried to understand to me. Your warm and welcoming attitude made me feel at home. I still remember my first day of school when I get lost and now you helped me. Your support made me feel safe and cared for. One of favorite memories is the day I went skating with Maya. I was fun that I will always remember. Thank you again for everything. Take care of yourself. Have a good day ! Sincerely, To the next exchange students : Enjoy every moment in Montreal
Hi, Thank you for accepting my homestay for three weeks. I am very grateful. Before coming here, I was excited about the change in environment, life and language, but I was also very anxious. I was also anxious because I couldn't speak English well. In that situation, Oscar's family spoke to me slowly and made easy for me to understand, which I am very happy to spend three weeks with such a warm and kind family. I also wanted to express my gratitude to everyone this morning.
