Meet your host family: Chris in Ireland

Welcome to Chris and Gerry's house!

HOSTING ACADEMIC STUDENTS ONLY
My name is Chris and I am married to Gerry, we both work in a pharmaceutical company in Westport.
Together we have three children, Laura is the eldest she is 24 and is working as a Dietitian, Kevin is 23 and is a business graduate and is hoping to study teaching next year while Aoife is the youngest, she is 21 and has also studied business and hoping to become a teacher.

Laura loves reading, music and watching movies. Kevin enjoys watching football and playing video games. Aoife loves sport and is a very good football player. We have been hosting students for the past 8 years and have all loved their stay with us. We treat our host students like our own children and they will be part of our family while staying with us. We have had students return and stay with us after finishing their study abroad.

Your Irish immersion experience :
A typical day with us

On weekdays, we all typically wake up around 7am because work starts at 8am. Here in Ireland, school starts at 9am, so students usually leave for school at 8:30am. We live just a five-minute drive away from the school. School finishes at 4pm, and students can either come home or, if they have planned activities, they will be picked up at a later time. We usually have dinner at 5pm in the evening and go for a walk or attend gym classes between 6pm and 8pm. Students are welcome to join us for these activities.

On weekends, we usually sleep in until around 10am. Sometimes Laura attends a gym class on Saturdays, and Aoife has football training. On Saturdays, we usually do our big grocery shopping, and the student is welcome to come along. Sometimes we order takeout and go for a walk on the beach or around town, where we grab a coffee. Students are also welcome to spend the day with friends if they wish, as long as we coordinate a safe drop-off and pick-up time. Sundays are a day for relaxation before the busy week begins again. Sometimes we go to the swimming pool or the cinema, and we also enjoy baking on the weekends. We make buns, tarts, cakes, and brownies. Kevin enjoys watching football on the weekends and often watches the home team with the student!
