Meet your host family: Mónica in Spain

Welcome to Monica's house :-)

IMPORTANT!

To participate in this immersion program, it is necessary to reserve a minimum of 10 hours of Spanish classes per week and at least 3 excursions from our list. Spanish sessions can take place at home, outdoors, in the garden, on the terrace, or even while we explore together. The excursions are designed to complement your learning and immerse you in the local culture, with options such as visits to the capital of Maresme: Mataró, tours of traditional markets, or routes through stunning natural environments.

I accept private groups, whether they are friends, coworkers, or family, with a maximum of 4 people. My accommodation has two double bedrooms: one with a double bed and a private bathroom located right next to the room, and the other is a suite equipped with two single beds.

ABOUT ME

I am from Spain but have family from Argentina and France, so I grew up in a multicultural and very enriching environment. Additionally, I have lived in London, United Kingdom, for nearly thirty years. I have worked in the fields of tourism, education, and translation, and have held various senior management positions both in Spain and in England.

As a teacher, I have experienced the joy of achieving my goals as an educator over the past two decades, measuring success by the many students I have taught, from the youngest to the oldest. In my teaching practice, I place a strong emphasis on the importance of immersion in language and culture through games, sports, movies, music, books, and simple yet enriching conversations. I firmly believe that culture and language are inextricably linked and that a complete understanding of a language cannot be achieved without a deep knowledge of the culture from which it arises.

I have traveled a lot and visited many places, including Turkey, Egypt, Peru, Colombia, India, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, France, Germany, Italy, and Austria, among many others.

I am particularly interested in photography, travel and tourism, art, cinema, and theater.

I enjoy walking my two Golden Retrievers: Rumba and Samba; hiking and being in nature; swimming in the Mediterranean Sea; and being outdoors in general.

I love spending time with my family and friends, organizing gatherings, and being the host for special occasions.

I love making new friends from all corners of the world. I try to instill in my students a great understanding and appreciation of Spanish-speaking countries and cultures. So if you are ready to immerse yourself in Spanish culture, I look forward to seeing you here in Barcelona!

Mónica :-)

ABOUT MY FAMILY

At home, we are 5, we get along very well, and we always help each other as much as we can; we are a great team:

My mother: Josefina, an exemplary woman, elegant, friendly, and generous. She is the matriarch of the family, and nothing would work without her. She loves gardening, decorating, and fashion; in fact, she has no limits when we go shopping—time ceases to exist :-)

My father: Juan, a very active man. When he is not cooking (for everyone), he is painting, and when he is not, he is writing. He has a very special sense of humor and is like an encyclopedia—who needs Alexa? ;-)

My Rumba: She loves to take naps, whether it’s in bed, on a chair, on the sofa, anywhere; if she can snuggle in someone’s lap, even better... but her favorite spot is sleeping in bed with her head on the pillow, next to her mom!

My Samba: She is very active and wakes me up every morning to go for a walk. She loves playing ball with her mom and running; in fact, she can run miles and miles without looking back. She takes care of guarding the house because she likes to protect her family.

MY LOCATION

They say the best things come in small packages, and this charming little village is no exception to the rule. From the best tourist attractions to exciting adventures, there are plenty of fun things to do in Dosrius and the rest of the Costa del Maresme, in the province of Barcelona.

Dosrius offers visitors quiet walks to enjoy nature and discover the 'El Montnegre y el Corredor' Park, the first 'silent park' in Spain: a refuge from noise. The green vegetation and fresh air will be your companions every morning before your Spanish classes.

MY HOME IS YOUR HOME

My house is very large, with spacious open areas and gardens, from which you can look at the picturesque 'El Montnegre i el Corredor' Park and access it literally from my backyard. If you feel like going for a swim in the pool, it’s very easy; we are 5 minutes by car from the village pool, and if you prefer the sea, like me, in 20 minutes we can be at the beach by car.

We have 5 double bedrooms, of which we offer 2 to our guests. One of them, with two single beds, is a suite, as it has a private bathroom inside the room, exclusively for you. The other double bedroom, with a double bed, has a bathroom located right next to it. Depending on the number of people or the package you reserve, the bathroom can be for private or shared use.

The kitchen-dining area is very cozy because it has a wood stove, and in winter, it feels wonderful; it also has a reading nook where you can relax and dive into one of the many books in the small library. Oh, there is also a collection of board games and puzzles, so there’s something for everyone.

In the living room, we usually watch movies and documentaries on Netflix, as it is great for learning Spanish. You can also watch the news and find out what is happening in the world, although sometimes I wonder if it's better not to know and live in peace for a few hours.

My favorite part of the house is the main terrace in the barbecue area, where I have breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the spring and summer months, and if the weather permits, also in autumn. For me, it is the main dining area where we have most meals and dinners with family, friends, neighbors, and guests.

Live and breathe the Spanish lifestyle, and immerse yourself in the language, culture, history, gastronomy, art, and much more. My home is your home!

IMMERSION PROGRAM WITH SPANISH CLASSES AND CULTURAL VISITS

This immersion program offers you a unique opportunity to live and learn Spanish at your teacher's home in Spain. I only accept people who take Spanish classes along with the stay, as this program is a combination of language, culture, history, gastronomy, and much more.

I have accumulated more than twenty years of significant and progressive experience in a variety of teaching, management, and exam preparation roles for Edexcel and Cambridge International Education. I am also an official DELE examiner from the Cervantes Institute for levels A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2, and an official SIELE examiner; in fact, you can prepare for and take the exam with me, as I belong to an accredited SIELE center.

I am a native speaker of Spanish and Catalan; I also speak English fluently and French at a good level, I study Arabic because I am passionate about linguistic challenges, and I would learn many more languages if I had more free time. I believe that language learning plays a fundamental role in preparing today's students for their future careers in a global market.

To participate in this immersion program, it is necessary to book a minimum of 10 hours of Spanish classes per week and at least 3 excursions from our list. The Spanish sessions can take place at home, outdoors, in the garden, on the terrace, or even while we explore together. The excursions are designed to complement your learning and immerse you in the local culture, with options such as visits to the capital of Maresme: Mataró, tours of traditional markets, or routes through stunning natural environments.

I accept private groups, whether they are friends, coworkers, or family members, with a maximum of 4 people. My accommodation has two double bedrooms: one with a double bed and a private bathroom located right next to the room, and the other which is a suite equipped with two single beds.

The program is completely tailored to each student's level and is designed based on your needs, offering a fully personalized experience. The goal is to encourage a natural immersion in the language through everyday conversations with native speakers, including myself, my family, and friends, as well as through excursions and social activities.

I guarantee my hosts that there will be no other guests of the same nationality during their stay, unless a closed group of friends or family members comes.

Proposed activities:

Your Spanish immersion experience :
A typical day with us

My day starts around 7 AM with a morning walk in 'El Montnegre i el Corredor', where I take the opportunity to enjoy nature and see how happy my little dogs, Rumba and Samba, are while walking in the forest. The truth is that we are doing very well together, and sometimes we meet other people and dogs who are out for a stroll too; it is very entertaining!

After the walk, I brush their fur, play with them for a while, change my clothes, and prepare breakfast for them and for myself. They eat kibble while I enjoy various fruit smoothies. We love to relax for a while in the garden and enjoy the views before starting the workday!

Although my schedule is very flexible, I like to be sitting in front of the computer by 9 AM. The idea is to get to work around that time, so the Spanish class would be from 9 AM to approximately 11 AM with a short break to catch our breath.

On days when we have a scheduled visit, after class, we will go on an excursion, to the supermarket, to the sports center, etc. It all depends on the program you have chosen. If there is no visit that day, you will have free time until lunchtime.

When our stomachs ask for food, we will prepare lunch together, although my father often cooks, so in that case, it’s just a matter of setting the table and sitting down to savor the day's specialty. Lunch is the main meal of the day. An example of a menu would be: for the first course, a mixed salad, and for the second course, chicken with baked potatoes, and for dessert, fruit, yogurt, or ice cream.

In the afternoons, depending on the program you have chosen, we will either have a cultural visit or enjoy free time until dinner.

Dinners are usually lighter than lunch because it’s important to go to bed having digested properly.

As the popular saying goes, and also my father says: "breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a beggar."

Tu n’as pas d’obligation.
