Meet your host family: Marianne in United Kingdom

Marianne welcomes you to beautiful Bath!

Hello! I am Marianne, a 51 year old active, nature-loving triathlete and osteopath, living in the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage city of Bath with my cat, Tess. I host all year round, and love to meet people from different countries and show them around my area.

Explore the stunning architecture including the original Roman Baths, Royal Crescent and Pulteney Bridge, or venture out into the glorious surrounding countryside - complete with pretty villages, quiet canal paths and wooded walks. Perfect for cycling, walking and picnics!

My home is about 1.5km from the centre. There are very frequent buses at the end of my road, or you can enjoy a lovely walk to town through the large park nearby, or along the river path.

I hold an Enhanced DBS check certificate for your peace of mind, and will be happy to share this with you prior to your visit.

I have one very large guest room, this is equipped with one double bed and one single bed. I can accommodate a couple, a family group (two adults and a child), or two same-sex students (one in the double bed and one in the single bed). There is a spacious bathroom, complete with a lovely roll-top bath and a shower.

I have a minimum booking of a one-week stay; this includes free collection and drop off at Bath bus or railway station. I offer full board (breakfast, a packed lunch, and dinner) and half board (breakfast and dinner only). I enjoy healthy home-cooked meals and can cater for most dietary requirements including vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and Coeliac.

I offer the Full Immersion Guarantee, so that there will never be two students of the same nationality staying here at the same time.

Your English immersion experience :
A typical day with us

No two days are the same! I have very extensive local knowledge, and I am happy to tailor your days to suit. Chatting over breakfast and dinner is a good time to practise your English. During the day, I can organise a variety of free activities for students, such as baking, walking trips, or a picnic in the park. Likewise, I can arrange for paid trips to some of the many nearby attractions such as the Roman Baths or to do sports including swimming, cycling and canoeing. Older guests may prefer to come and go as they wish - I'm always on hand for advice about trips and transport.

My home is just 50 meters from the bus stop into the city centre and the park is less than 5 minutes walk.

  • I can host people with disabilities
  • Private room
  • Pets and animals:

Paid options organized by the family

I can offer you free collection and drop-off at the Bath bus or railway station between 8am-8pm at the start and end of your visit.

If you are flying, there is an excellent bus service from our nearest airport (Bristol). You can book the "AirDecker" bus online; this currently costs £22 return and takes about 1 hour each way. It stops at the end of my road, about 50 metres from my house. If you prefer, you can take a taxi from the airport.

I can offer all sorts of excursions to local landmarks and attractions. The entry price is NOT included in your stay, and would be paid by the student on the day. These include:

The historic Roman Baths, and Bath Abbey (tower tours also available)
Relax at the Thermae Bath Spa with its rooftop pool (over-18's only)
A walking tour of the Royal Crescent, Circus, Assembly Rooms and Pultenay Bridge (Jane Austen's Bath)
Cycling along the canal (or you can hire a Canal Boat for the day)
Punting with a picnic on the River Avon
Canoeing on the canal at Bradford on Avon, or visiting the ancient Tithe Barn
A trip to Cheddar Gorge and Caves
National Trust Houses, including Dyrham Park, Great Chalfield Manor and Stourhead/ King Alfred's Tower
Walking the Bath Skyline route (1/2 day)

If there is anything specific not on the list you would like to include, I will do my best to accommodate you!
