Welcome to Pilar and her family's home!
I invite you to discover the City of Light, VALENCIA!
Hello! My name is Pilar. I introduce myself as a host and Spanish teacher.
I am going to introduce you to my family, my house, and my surroundings.
My family:
We are a welcoming and enthusiastic family that loves to share our space, our city, and our culture with people from different countries.
My oldest daughter, Esmeralda, is a law student at the University of Valencia, with a very sociable and fun personality. She is independent and usually visits us on weekends and holidays. My son Max is creative and very friendly, studying Fine Arts.
My partner is named Sam, a British citizen. He works as a medical advisor for a pharmaceutical company in London. And lastly, myself. I am a Spanish teacher, working online and self-employed, I am fascinated by my work. I worked as the director of the Leonardo Da Vinci Study Center in Valencia, as well as a Spanish teacher at David Game College in London, where my family and I lived for ten years.
My house:
We live in a chalet in Gilet, a mountain village near the Mediterranean coast, just 20 minutes from the city of Valencia and ten minutes from the beach. We are close to the city and the beach, restaurants, supermarkets, and next to a Roman castle.
In the house, there are three guest bedrooms: one with a double bed, another with two single beds, and another with a single bed that can turn into a double.
The house has two terraces, a swimming pool, gardens around, a barbecue (where we will cook our paellas... haha), and a small vegetable garden.
We can accommodate three people if they want separate rooms, one person in each bedroom. However, for groups or families, we can accommodate up to 6 people if they are willing to share the bedrooms.
As a host in Valencia, I welcome to my home anyone, family, or group of friends from any country in the world who wish to visit our city and surroundings.
We receive two types of guests:
TYPE 1.- People who want to visit Spain and live with a Spanish family during their stay because they want to LEARN SPANISH or improve it and are also interested in getting to know Spanish culture, tradition, and food.
For them, classes are personalized following a study program according to their level of Spanish and age. Classes can also focus on preparing for internationally recognized Spanish certificates such as DELE or SIELE.
Reservations are accepted for a single person or groups for this type of guests.
TYPE 2.-Groups or families who want to get to know the city of Valencia and its surroundings, as well as the culture by participating in some festivals in our region such as "Las Fallas," "Holy Week," "La Tomatina," etc., and enjoy the sun and the beaches of Valencia.
Reservations are accepted starting from two people for type 2 guests.
Our activities program will be different depending on the interests and age of our guests.
Included activities:
- Visit to the historic center of Valencia
- Exterior visit to the City of Arts and Sciences
- Choose one of these two options: enjoy the beaches or take a beautiful walk through the Turia River Garden, which crosses the city with 9 km of extension.
- Choose one of these two options: Spanish cooking course with a chef to learn how to cook paella, Spanish omelette, and rice pudding or bicycle ride through the Turia Gardens.
Activities you can do, but are not included in the package:
- Visit to the Museum of Science Principe Felipe, The Hemisferic, and the Oceanographic in the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia city.
- Visit to the Albufera, transportation, and boat ride.
- Flamenco show.
- Visit to city pubs with live music.
- Wine tour in Requena.
- Tapas tour in the city.
- Water activities.
- Learn Latin dances.
- Go to a gym or swimming pool.
Any proposal is accepted, and I will be available to manage reservations and accompany you during the activity, if desired.
I guarantee that guests of the same nationality, who are interested in learning or improving Spanish and have booked training classes, will not use their language to communicate with each other, at least in my presence.
A day in our house:
To start, we will have breakfast at home. Our breakfasts are always varied, with coffee, tea, or milk with cereal. Depending on the day, we combine this with toast with butter and jam, or toast with olive oil and ham, or sometimes with fresh fruit salad, yogurt, juices, and nuts. Varied breakfast.
For Spanish students, after breakfast, our two-hour classes start, ten hours per week. After classes, we prepare lunch and in the afternoon, we have cultural visits or practice some sports. In the evening, we prepare dinner at home and depending on the program, there could be a night visit to the city or, for those who like music, we can go to a flamenco tablao or a live music pub, only if they are over 18 years old.
For groups or families who do not wish to have Spanish classes, they can participate in the same activities as Spanish students, except they will have the morning free to enjoy our village, Gilet, and its surroundings or visit the city of Valencia.
Any suggestions will be welcome to create, as a host, a PERFECT and PERSONALIZED program of activities, tailored to your interests.
Don't miss this unique opportunity. DARE TO LIVE THIS ADVENTURE WITH US!
My friend and I had a fabulous time staying with Pilar for a week. She is friendly, gracious, hospitable and a wonderful Spanish teacher. We did many activities together - going to the beach, cooking, biking through Valencia, visiting the nearby castle and seeing the historic center of Valencia. All the time, speaking Spanish all day, every day. Her daughter Esmeralda came with 5 friends and spent a whole afternoon making paella, which was absolutely wonderful. Do not hesitate to book a homestay with Pilar - you will enjoy yourself and improve your Spanish.
I decided to book the immersion course in Spanish with Pilar because I wanted to push myself into speaking the language instead of just taking grammar classes online. Pilar is a warm and friendly lady, so I immediately felt comfortable with her as she encouraged me to join in conversation with her.. Pilar’s lessons were tailor made for me, focusing on my weaknesses and building my confidence, and by the end of my visit I felt that I’d made good progress, and I definitely felt more confident in initiating conversation. The house is airy and spacious with a lovely view of the mountains from the terrace, and a swimming pool for a cooling dip. Pilar is a good cook and made fresh, typically Spanish dishes every day, working around her students’ dietary requirements, nothing was too much trouble for her. If you’re looking for a Spanish immersion course in a relaxing and homely setting, I thoroughly recommend this home stay.
