Welcome to Thelma's cosy home
Hi, I'm delighted to welcome you to our home, a hive of constant activity and fun.
I am a nurse and my husband Diarmuid is a postman.
We have four children from age 11 to 25, the oldest three are in college studying engineering, teaching and spa management.
We love to travel as a family and meeting new people. Your child will be totally immersed in our home, as one of our family.
We enjoy exploring the outdoors at weekends and enjoy quiet time during the school week allowing time to focus on studies and playing board games, watching family film or an evening activity or two available in local area.
Maximum of 2 guests, preferably from different countries to allow for total immersion in the language and culture. Can facilitate friends/siblings seeking same host by specific request.
During the academic year we have an early start at 7am, breakfast, uniform and lunch.
Out of the house by 7.40am for second level school bus, we are situated between a number of second level schools so time to leave the house may vary slightly.
If attending local primary school its less than a 10 min walk so can leave at 9am. I sometimes drive to secondary school. School has two breaks and finishing time is at 4pm, 3pm for primary level.
We provide a snack after school and encourage homework to be completed directly after this. Then there's some down time before dinner which is served around 6pm.
After dinner there is the options of outdoor exploration, paid activity or relaxation time with the family.
Outside of the academic term and at weekends we like to explore the many attractions in our backyard of Kilkenny/Waterford and Carlow such as bowling, cinema, go karting, forest walks, beach or take a longer day trip further afield Dublin and Wexford to the many cultural museums or Dublin zoo for example.
