Welcome to Sophie
Immersion in a French family in the Vendée countryside!
I am Sophie. I am 52 years old. I live in Vendée in La Réorthe, 30 minutes from La Roche-Sur-Yon, 40 minutes from Puy du Fou, 1 hour from La Rochelle, and 1 hour and 10 minutes from Nantes.
I work in the wellness field (hypnosis, organizing wellness workshops, massages, etc.) in my office located at home.
My older children, who are 23 years old, have left the nest!
I live with my 17-year-old daughter who will be going to university next academic year in 2024.
She practices judo. She is interested in computer science, judo, and a ton of other subjects.
We have 2 cats and a miniature chicken.
We are available to welcome teenagers or adults of all nationalities for a friendly stay in our spacious home with its large garden.
I have decided to host foreigners in order to discover and share another culture, another way of life, another way of thinking, and different traditions and habits.
You will be considered a member of the family and will participate in family life and its organization.
We have already welcomed an Australian and two Austrians for several months (with an association). We have also been a host for young Mexican women studying in France. We have received young people for short stays of a few days.

It is important that your priority is learning the French language and discovering life in France.
I will be happy to welcome you to France and share our daily life with you for a few days! I also wish to enable you to learn French effectively.
I have taught French for a year in England in the past.
We live in a 200m2 house with 6 bedrooms. Families can be accommodated in the same room.
We have a garden of 3000m2, which we enjoy on nice days. We set up garden furniture and deck chairs there...
We have a small wooded area where we set up hammocks, which we particularly enjoy during hot weather.
In the summer, we can also enjoy a private pool 3 kilometers away.
We do not have a television, and there is no wifi in the bedroom (only in the living room).
We provide our books for use.
The house is non-smoking and non-vaping. We tolerate smoke in the garden.

We welcome children under 10 years old only with at least one of their parents. To be discussed together.
We welcome children between 10 and 13 years old only if accompanied (brother or sister, family, parent...)
We welcome teenagers from 13 years old.
We gladly welcome families.
We accept a maximum of 3 people who do not know each other at the same time.
If it is a family or people who know each other, we can accommodate up to 7 people housed in 3 rooms.
We have the possibility to welcome simultaneously brothers and sisters, friends, or couples who want to share an experience in France.
We can also accommodate families. In this case, you can choose to be housed in a single or shared room.
In the case of hosting several people at the same time, we guarantee that you will be from different countries so as not to hinder the learning of French and will be housed in separate rooms.
We live in the Vendée countryside, in La Réorthe, a village of 1,100 inhabitants. It is a rural village. There is a very small grocery store with card payment only. The nearest shops are 10 km away. We live 50 km from the ocean. Our department, Vendée, is known for its warm climate in summer and mild weather in winter (snow and frost are rare) and its culinary specialties, such as Vendéen brioche... Yum!
We have a simple life. We enjoy walking in the countryside or in the forest. We love board games. We enjoy reading, gardening, and DIY projects. We like to bake cakes or cookies and try new recipes. You can learn to make one or more French recipes to share with your family when you return... We love to enjoy the outdoors, depending on the weather, and visit family. We go geocaching. Sometimes we go to the municipal swimming pool, bowling, and the cinema. We go to the beach from time to time when the weather is nice. We like to go to the Puy du Fou Park, voted "Best Amusement Park in the World" twice.
You can share all or part of our leisure activities (according to your tastes). Please note that I am not available all day, as I have a professional activity at home.
A typical day during your stay (subject to change):
9:00/9:30 AM: Breakfast
10:00 AM: French lesson if you chose the option
11:00 AM: Free time
12:00/1:30 PM: Preparing lunch together + Lunch
2:00 to 7:00 PM: Free time
7:00/8:30 PM: Preparing dinner together + Dinner
9:30 PM: Rest
The included or paid activities take place in the afternoon or evening, depending on the day and the activity. The duration depends on the planned activity. Any activity is an opportunity to speak French!
The stay includes:
*Accommodation in a single (or shared, according to preference) room with free access to the garden
*Assistance with French in daily exchanges
*Meals according to the chosen option (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
*Your participation in meal preparation
*One activity per day together, tailored to the age of the guest, season, and everyone's preference (walk, creative art, board game, gardening, DIY, geocaching, beach in summer, outdoor activity, or a cultural/sporting activity (at an additional cost). Everything is an opportunity for conversation in French!
The activities are proposed but not imposed! You can also choose to rest or take the opportunity to do independent tourism during the day if you have a vehicle and are over 18.
Most of the time we have meals together as a family. We cook very little meat or fish (1 to 2 times a month maximum). Our meals are mostly vegetarian.
