Meet your host family: Rosalind in United Kingdom

Welcome to Rosalind's Family Home

Hi,

I am a mother of 3. I have 2 sons & a daughter, between the ages of 29 and 23, so please note I am very familiar with young people! : )
I have hosted many foreign language students and my guests have been between the ages 17- 54 years old. I am happy to host guests that are 16 years and over.

I was born in London and have spent most of my life living in London except for 5 years living in Switzerland, just outside Zurich. My family is an international family and embraces cultures of the World.

Our family home is situated in a very peaceful mews in Zone 2, the centre of London. It's a very vibrant part of London, home to one of the city's most popular tourist attractions, Camden Market. We are close to London Zoo, the Regents Canal and the beautiful Regents and Primrose Hill Park, which are all within walking distance. There is so much to explore in our area and surrounding area. The British Museum and National Art Gallery are short bus rides away or if you really want to get to know London, walking is the best way to discover tis fabulous city.
Transport is easily accessible. The nearest bus stop with routes to all areas of London is 3 minutes walk away. The underground is about 7 minutes walk and the overhead train station is 4 minutes from our home.

My daughter and I have hosted many foreign students and I can confidently say that each and everyone has had an enjoyable, memorable, experience and have left us with the English language skills improved. We have hosted students from Argentina, Italy, Japan, Korea, France and Switzerland.

My eldest son lives locally and creates Music. My younger son lives and works in Switzerland. My daughter lives at home with me and works in Sustainability for a corporate company.

I love to engage with my guests and give them the best 'London Experience' and I am happy to point you in the direction of anything you would like to particularly discover in London or the UK.

My career has been in the Fashion Industry as a Designer and my hobbies revolve around creating a very comfortable home for my family and guests. I love cooking, gardening (I have a lovely city garden), music, (I'm a Soul, DJ and host a radio show for fun), Collecting vinyl records, traveling and yoga.

My home is a non smoking zone and would like my guest to be non smokers.

Proposed activities:
I can offer volunteering or work experience placement (internship)

I cannot personally offer a job but many of the students that I have had stay with me in the past have taken voluntary, non paying jobs in the local charity shops that we have in the area. They have found this a great experience to develop their language skills and an additional bonus to add to their C.V.

Your English immersion experience :
A typical day with us

The guest room is a single room with separate sole use of W/C. I work from home 2 days a week so I am available at this time. The remaining part of the week, I am working in the office. I usually leave home at 8 or 8.30am. On the occasions that I may leave home before the guest, I would expect the guest to be capable of switching on the alarm, locking the front door and leaving the house secured.

My guests will help themselves to breakfast, I will provide whatever they like (please let me know what your breakfast requirements are) and I would expect them to wash up and leave the kitchen as they have found it. I would imagine that my guest would be taking a language course and that would take up the main part of their day. Most of my previous guests have taken part in extracurricular activities that are held at their school, or have an agenda and like to discover as much of London and its many free galleries and museums, after their day in school. They usually return home after 6. If they would like to return home earlier they are free to do so. I like to serve evening meal between 7-8pm. During this time we can discuss the day, have conversation and I can give advice to any queries. It would be good if the guest would assist with the light chores of tidying up after dinner. We do have a dishwasher so it's nothing heavy-duty. After dinner guests are then free to spend time at home or meet up with colleagues. If they are going to be late home for dinner or intend to eat out, if they could let me know in advance, that would be appreciated. If I am going to be home late I will always leave a meal prepared or my daughter is available to provide the evening meal. Weekends are the guest's free time. I am always happy to make suggestions of places to visit and assist in organizing if need be. Weekends are my time to reset the home, shop, take time to enjoy a walk...my guests are welcome to join in that process if they like.
