Welcome to Martina’s family
We are a united family of four. Our older son, 18, is currently studying and living in Dublin, our younger son, 13, is in 1st year secondary school, living at home.
I run an art school with renowned Irish artists in a nearby coastal town, and my husband is an art/tech start up founder. We both often work from home.
We live in a lovely, bright, welcoming recently renovated Irish cottage with 4 bedrooms (180 m2) and a small garden in Annestown village, in county Waterford, 2 minutes walk from a beautiful safe swimming and surfing beach.
Our area is known as the UNESCO Copper Coast National Park, geologically rare and renowned for its coastal landscape. It is a short bus or car run to Tramore, a small town with shops, sport clubs etc., and Waterford, the oldest Irish town with museums, cinemas and a variety of festivals running throughout the year.
We all enjoy the outdoors – hiking in the beautiful nearby Comeraghs, swimming, surfing and kayaking on our Copper Coast beaches.
We are interested in music (we also play musical instruments), visual art (we make art), technology, languages (we are proficient in French, Italian, Czech, Russian) and literature (Luke is an avid reader and writer).
Having experienced - both my husband and myself - family hospitality during our own studies abroad in the past, we would be happy to offer this experience to international students, and to have our younger son benefit from this too.
We guarantee full immersion. The student will be part of the family and will be offered to join us in all leisure activities (hiking, kayaking, swimming, playing games, cinema) but also in cooking and looking after the house, playing with our son or visiting the grandad, all through English language…
Selling ice cream in a beach hut with our scout group (day or two)
On a nice day, after breakfast we might walk to the local beach for a swim, then make up a packed lunch and take a short drive along the Copper Coast to the Comeragh Mountains for a day hike.
On the way back, we might pick up some fresh fish & chips for dinner from the local chipper.
On a rainy day, we will play board games, listen to music or read out loud, bake a cake and enjoy a family movie with a home-made dinner.
