Meet your host family: Daina in United Kingdom

Friendly and Fun Family of three - Shavington - Registered Nurse

James (34, Quantity Surveyor), Daina (33, Registered Nurse), and Harriet (5, year one), we are DBS checked, we have no criminal convictions and we have never received any kind of caution. We have a very active and fun household. We have a large and super clean home, with a welcoming and homely atmosphere. We have a very friendly 8 year old husky German Shepard, who loves to meet new people.

We have two cars, a large front and back garden, trampoline, and a park within 1 minute walk (it can be seen from the front bedroom windows). We live on a private road, with a four bedroomed detached home.

We are getting some baby chickens at the end of August, which will eventually move into a spacious coop in our back garden.

Proposed activities:

Your English immersion experience :
A typical day with us

Our typical day varies a lot!

Breakfast is usually between 7-8.30am (variety of cereal, fruits, toast, croissants, bagels and occasionally a full English)

Activities for the week are very varied and tailored to the weather and interests of all, but could include:
- Visiting a farm
- Going on an adventure walk with the dog (scavenger hunt)
- Visiting Queen’s Park (which is close to us), feeding the ducks and geese, visiting the large park
- Mountain biking (depending on the student, we will likely have a suitable bike and safety gear as we have a large double garage with lots of bikes!)
- Visiting the beach
- Going to a skate/bike park
- Visiting Chester city center (visiting the Chester walls, learning about Romans, the beautiful cathedral, the shopping centers)
- Rock climbing
- Local bike rides
- Arts and crafts
- Visiting Nantwich Lake to see the baby ducklings
- Bowling
- Going to a stadium to watch football or rugby
- Visiting a local pub for the quiz, or a traditional English meal
- Playing a game of snooker or darts
- Home movie nights
- Home spa/pamper evenings
- Hikes
- Visiting castles
- Visiting garden centers
- Visiting churches/museums
- Visiting sea life/wildlife experiences

Our activities will be tailored as much as possible to the interests of our student, and we can discuss this prior to your visit. Most of these activities are FREE and included in our weekly fee, to be discussed upon booking.

In addition to staying in a safe and friendly neighborhood, we have strong and kind morals, and so any student will feel like part of our family. We will send pictures of our fun activities and general well-being updates, to give peace of mind for the students’ loved ones.

We will also offer educational discussions and activities (at least one hour a day) to help the students practice their English and to assist with pronunciation and writing if required (James and Daina have first-class degrees). As an experienced registered nurse is within the home, the student can receive some education in first aid, and basic life support knowledge. We will also support students with some basic life skills, which could include: using a washing machine, ironing, cooking, car washing, general household duties, shopping, and animal care. This can be discussed in more detail, to ensure we are student focused.

Students will have their own room unless two students book together (in which a 50% discount can be applied), with two large double wardrobes and a large bathroom. We have three toilets in our home, so there will always be a bathroom available.

Food - we offer a variety of foods, mostly home-cooked and we can cater for allergies, as our daughter has food allergies. We have a huge snack cupboard which is split into different categories (mostly healthy), but we do limit unhealthy snacks to one a day (this is a rule for everyone in our household). We have at least 4 varieties of fruit in the house at any one time, and we always have a plentiful choice of vegetables. We can provide a packed lunch. We only drink bottled water (this is our preference) and can be provided to the student if they wish (or they can drink the safe tap water).

Airport transfers can be arranged, although most airports have access to the trains, in which a trip to Crewe train station can be completed. Pick up from Crewe station is included.

We look forward to welcoming you into our home.
