English Immersion in Medieval Sarlat
Welcome to our family immersion experience in Sarlat! Originally from South Africa, I have roots in French descent with my maiden name being Du Plessis, and my married name is Bothma. My husband is also South African and occasionally joins us here in Sarlat. Together, we offer a warm and inclusive environment where you may be hosted by both of us or just myself during your stay. Although my beloved Jack Russell, Jack, remains in South Africa, his spirit is ever-present.
I fell in love with Sarlat’s medieval charm and decided to purchase a home here in 2016. Since then, I’ve been slowly renovating our house to make it a comfortable retreat. Located close to the old city, everything from the bakery to the butcher and Place de Mairie is within walking distance.
While we enjoy the convenience of town life, our true passion lies in exploring the natural beauty and historical richness of the region. Join us for excursions to nearby lakes, castles, and other activities around Sarlat that promise unforgettable experiences beyond the city’s cobblestone streets.
One guest room with ensuite shower, toilet, and basin with a double bed. I can host 2 friends or siblings but they will share the bathroom. I have 2 double beds available.

Choose from beginner-friendly yoga, breathing relaxation techniques, a peaceful walk in the park, or a stroll through the picturesque streets of Sarlat. There’s no need to feel stressed, as all activities are adapted to your individual needs and comfort and form part of the English learning experience.
Following our morning exercise, we’ll dive into a one-hour theory lesson, focusing on practical English skills and tailored to your learning objectives. This session will help build your confidence and improve your proficiency in a supportive and engaging environment.
As lunchtime approaches, we’ll prepare a light, nutritious meal together. This might include a trip to the local bakery to pick up a fresh baguette, adding a touch of authentic French culture to your day.
After lunch, you'll have a free hour to catch up on your phone, social media, and contact family and friends. This time is yours to relax and connect with loved ones.
In the afternoon, we will have another one-hour English lesson, building on the skills and knowledge from the morning session. Afterward, we'll engage in an activity such as grocery shopping or planning the menu for the evening or the next day. On Wednesdays, we visit the local food market, so we’ll prepare a list and recipe in advance, deciding together what delicious meal we want to prepare.
In the evening, we will cook together and enjoy a meal, followed by light conversation around the table, providing a relaxed setting to practice your English in a natural and enjoyable way.
