NEW! Welcome to our house, Hannah, Andy and 3 teenage daughters
We are a family of five, parents Hannah and Andy and three daughters, Laila (17), Tessa (15), and Sasha (12). We live on a Christmas tree and sheep farm an hour from Dublin in a very pretty little village called Grangecon that has an incredible award-winning café. We love being outside and have two dogs and three ponies/horses that we ride and compete on. We have a lake on the farm where we love swimming on hot days and also a tennis court. We are always up to something, exploring, being social, and living life! We have lived abroad for work both before children and with our children and love traveling and meeting people from other countries.
We had au pairs living with us when the children were younger and have since had many foreign students to stay, and they all seem to have enjoyed it! We know how scary it can be to come to a foreign country and not know anyone or the language/culture (Laila spent a month in Spain at a host family in 2023 so experienced it firsthand), so we promise to take the utmost care of our student and treat them like family and ensure they get to see and do as much as possible in the time they are with us.
Hannah works part-time locally as an office manager and also teaches adult literacy and nutrition, and Andy works from home as a renewable energy manager. During the school holidays the girls are at home during the day too. They are chatty, fun, active kids who love laughing and having fun.
Our days are varied but tend to involve the mornings on the farm hanging out with cousins or riding horses or going to the café followed by lunch, and then we either swim or head off somewhere or meet up with friends.
Weekends involve horse events or surfing at Curracloe Beach or a trip to Dublin or a local tourist attraction such as Glendalough or Russborough House.
Evenings can involve activities or extended family dinners (we love cooking and eating good food), board games, or movies. Every day is different!
we only have one spare room that is ensuite but can take siblings or friends who don't mind sharing. The room can have a double bed or bunk beds.
We have had students privately over the years and are well used to having lots of people in our house and really enjoy meeting new people. Hannah is on many kids sports club committees and has done safeguarding children courses and has volunteered as a first responder over the years. She currently works in the community and works with groups of children teaching them about nutrition and cooking.
We are an active family who love to be outside doing things and are extremely social.
We live in a very sweet safe village where the kids can bike around and visit the local cafe.
We love to ride horses, hike, play tennis (there is a court on the farm), swim in the lake on the farm, go surfing (the beach is an hour away) and camping (when the weather allows!), go shopping, go to the cinema, my girls meet friends in the local cafe to hang out some mornings, we host lots of BBQs with friends coming over.
We are not a family that sits around, we love an adventure and to be moving and doing things, but that said, we do love hanging out at home (we have a games room with a pool table and air hockey in it) and cooking a big dinner and playing board games.
We also love cooking and baking and have big family dinners regularly.
The girls' cousins and grandparents also live on the farm so there are always lots of people in our house.
There are also always jobs that need doing too such as painting fences, helping on the farm, etc., that need doing which we pay our kids to do!!!
Local sports include riding, golf, tennis, swimming, summer tag rugby, kayaking, and many more.
